OLD BUSINESS:
NEW BUSINESS:
SHOW & TELL – As always, we love to see what you’ve been turning. You can ask for critiques of your work, or you can simply show your turnings. We can discuss turning ‘challenges’, talk about best practices, and chat about perplexing pieces of wood you would like suggestions on how to turn or what to turn it into. We would like to have members show one of their turnings and once everyone has a chance, if time permits additional items can be shown.
SAFETY MINUTE – Open Discussion – Best practices, what to do and what not to do.
RAFFLE: An ongoing item in our agenda is the Raffle. If you have an item to donate for the raffle, whether it’s a woodturning book, a piece of wood, a pen or bowl blank, a tool you don’t use, or maybe a turning you have done, we would sincerely appreciate the donation. Depending upon the quantity of donations received your item may be saved for a future month’s raffle.
PROGRAM
******
Our September meeting will focus on ‘treen’. According to Wikipedia, “Treen (literally “of a tree”) is a generic name for small handmade functional household objects made of wood. Treen is distinct from furniture, such as chairs, and cabinetry, as well as clocks and cupboards.” Treen emphasizes functionality more than decorativeness.
We are seeking volunteers to do a brief demonstration on an object you have made for yourself or a gift. We want to see chips fly. It will be in the format of both demonstration and “Show and Tell.” As before multiple objects are welcome, but we will give everyone a chance to present one before you can do your second one.
The presentation may include the following:
– an actual turning of the item
– show finished examples
– discuss wood choices
– wood finishes
– if not obvious, what is it used for
Possible items that you may demonstrate and discuss could be, but not limited to the following:
- ladles
- scoops
- spatulas
- mortar and pestle
- potato masher
- bowls
- boxes
- bottle stoppers
- pens
- handles
When you decide what you would like to present, please send me a note saying what the item is and the approximate length of your demonstration. Presentation order will be determined by actual turning demonstrations first and then by the order I receive your note.
This will give everyone a chance to do a brief presentation about something that you have made. Hopefully, everyone will get some new ideas to try.

Membership – IMPORTANT:
September marks the beginning of our new year. We are asking members to complete a new member registration form. Membership dues remain at $60/year. The money raised by dues helps us maintain our equipment, purchase supplies, and prepare for rent and moving costs when we move to our new shop.
Our club offers many opportunities to learn, including demonstrations, hands-on workshops, and formal and informal training. We provide a safe environment to learn proper safety techniques. We form a great community, and it’s an awesome place to connect with others who share an interest in woodturning. As you all know, woodturning is a great hobby, whether your interest is in turning practical pieces, or if you lean towards creating items with a more artistic flair.
New members are always welcome. Help support your club by bringing a friend who would be interested in learning, sharing knowledge, teaching, or someone who just appreciates great art.
The Board would like to express its extreme gratitude to Jon Stevenson for his continued generosity in allowing us to meet in his shop.
