Lake Superior Woodturners June 8th, 2024 Meeting Notice

Lake Superior Woodturners  MEETING DETAILS

Date    Saturday, June 8, 2024

Time   10:30am – 12 noon

Meeting Location:

Ray’s Saw Mill (approximate address: 32500 Old County Highway K, Bayfield County, WI.- this is the address of Russell Town Hall which is near Ray’s mill)

A very different Meeting Agenda for a very special meeting:

On Saturday June 8th our meeting will NOT be at Jon’s shop. Instead we go on a field trip!, Ray Hyde will be hosting us at his property for a demonstration of his sawmill plus a compare and contrast of green & black ash.  Field Trip!!! (a signed permission slip from your parents will NOT be required.)

The June meeting will start at 10:30 am (not 9 am) to allow for the 90 min driving time to the Bayfield peninsula near Little Sand Bay off Rt 13.  The driving instructions are in the attached PDF document (“Rays Saw Mill Directions”). Since cell phoneservice is weak at Ray’s place it is recommended you please print these directions and bring them with you so you don’t get lost. We do encourage members to ride share. If you would like to ride with someone let us know and we can help coordinate drivers.

Due to having quite a few members who travel or go to the cabin on weekends our June 8th meeting will be our last Saturday meeting until September – we go to our summer schedule starting in July. In July (7/10/2024) & August (8/14/2024) the meeting/demos will be on Wednesday night from 6 – 9 pm.  In September (9/14/2024) we return to our regular Saturday scheduled meetings.

  • NOTE: Ray asked me to pass on these 2 things:
    1.  Cell service is very poor at the sawmill
    2.  His grandson made a sign that will be at the end of his unmarked private road
  • The LSW club will provide dogs/brats, buns, condiments, paper plates and utensils as well as the gas grill. Please plan on bringing a dish to pass (fruit, veggies, chips or sweets)
  • There will be a selection of turning blanks available following Ray’s demo!
  • Things you will want to bring
    • a dish to share (fruit, veggies, chips or sweets)
    • a lawn chair
    • beverages (water, soda, sports drinks, etc.)
    • dress in layers like you were going to Canal Park.  We will be near Lake Superior so temps will change depending on the wind direction
    • Bug Spray and Sunscreen wouldn’t be a bad option to have just in case.
    • There will be a “show & tell” so please bring 1 item to show to the group.
