OLD BUSINESS:
NEW BUSINESS:
SHOW & TELL – As always, we love to see what you’ve been turning. You can ask for critiques of your work, or you can simply show your turnings. We can discuss turning ‘challenges’, talk about best practices, and chat about perplexing pieces of wood you would like suggestions on how to turn or what to turn it into. We would like to have members show one of their turnings and once everyone has a chance, if time permits additional items can be shown.
SAFETY MINUTE – Open Discussion – Best practices, what to do and what not to do.
RAFFLE: An ongoing item in our agenda is the Raffle. If you have an item to donate for the raffle, whether it’s a woodturning book, a piece of wood, a pen or bowl blank, a tool you don’t use, or maybe a turning you have done, we would sincerely appreciate the donation. Depending upon the quantity of donations received your item may be saved for a future month’s raffle.
PROGRAM
******
Our October meeting will focus on toys and not so practical items.
We are seeking volunteers to do a brief demonstration on an object you have made for yourself or a gift. We want to see chips fly. It will be in the format of both demonstration and “Show and Tell.” As before multiple objects are welcome, but we will give everyone a chance to present one before you can do your second one.
The presentation may include the following:
- an actual turning of the item
- show finished examples
- discuss wood choices
- wood finishes
- if not obvious, what is it used for
Possible items that you may demonstrate and discuss could be, but not limited to the following:
- toys
- tops
- cars
- animals
- gnomes
- ornaments
When you decide what you would like to present, please send me a note saying what the item is and the approximate length of your demonstration. The presentation order will be determined by actual turning demonstrations first and then by the order I receive in your note.
This will give everyone a chance to do a brief presentation about something that you have made. Hopefully, everyone will get some new ideas to try.
