LSW Board Of Director Election Candidates for 2024 to 2026 term:
Bonnie McDermid LSW Member Since 2015 (I think) Years Turning 10 off and on Current Work Self-employed book editor Pertinent interests in addition to woodturning: power carving, wood burning, creative group collaborations, hands-on learning through open shop, local classes, field trips What I bring to the party: Administrative skills – good organization, event planning, writing, and communications. FYI, I prefer projects rather than ongoing maintenance tasks, so I can better estimate and allocate the time needed. Vision – Strong interest in LSW becoming a creative hub where members can actively work on their turning skills and become more proficient in design, finishing, decorating, embellishing (weaving), etc. This may include collaborations with crafters using other media. Our club will continue to attract new members if we can help turners at all levels increase their skills in the encouraging setting we have now. a |
Paul Howard I have been a member of Lake Superior Woodturners for approximately 15 years, and have thoroughly enjoyed all I have learned from this club. I’ve been treasurer and handled the club’s finances for many years. My personal interests in turning lean towards pen making, boxes, natural edge bowls and utilitarian items. |
Robb Glibbery I am a retired RN who was employed at Essentia St. Mary’s for 26 years in the operating room. I have 2 degrees in Art from UMD (BFA in studio art/BAA in teaching) I have been a woodturner for 35 years and a member of LSW since 1999 including 15+ years serving as Program Director. I have attended multiple woodturning workshops at Arrowmont and John C. Campbell. I have had work accepted in local, regional, and national shows. Main interests in turning are: Hollow FormsProduction Turning Surface Decoration and EmbellishmentTool Design and Fabrication a |
Susan Van Loon Runnoe Greetings fellow wood turners. I have been turning for about 6 years, and a member of Lake Superior Woodturners since, I think, 2019. Besides woodturning, I work full-time as a pharmacist in Cloquet at a small independent pharmacy. I also do other woodworking, I quilt, carve spoons, and also garden! For three months in the spring, I coach junior high fastpitch softball, and from November through March I help Doug Runnoe coach Junior Curling and help teach adults how to curl. Even in my off time, I love going to craft and art fairs, and I enjoy finding other woodturners to see and hear about what they turn, and to talk to them about the Lake Superior Woodturners group. I have benefited from the vast knowledge of the members of this group, and realize what great resources we have in our Club. I am excited about where we are headed as a club, and I love being a part of the journey. I have served as president of Lake Superior Woodturners for the past 3 years and would be honored to be elected to the board again to continue helping our club move forward. |
Back to the meeting agenda…
Show & Tell – As always, we love to see what you’ve been turning. You can ask for critiques of your work, or you can simply show your turnings. We can discuss turning ‘challenges’, talk about best practices, and chat about perplexing pieces of wood you would like suggestions on how to turn or what to turn it into. We would like to have members show one of their turnings and once everyone has a chance if time permits additional items can be shown.
Safety Minute – Open Discussion
Raffle: An ongoing item in our agenda is the Raffle. If you have an item to donate for the raffle, whether it’s a woodturning book, a piece of wood, a pen or bowl blank, a tool you don’t use, or maybe a turning you have done, we would sincerely appreciate the donation. Depending upon the quantity of donations received your item may be saved for a future month’s raffle.
Program – Robb Glibbery and Todd Heggestad (and possibly Ray Hyde) will be demonstrating pyrography (wood burning) techniques, types of pyrography, and showing examples in their work. Different pyrography tools will be shown, and a discussion of the pros and cons, as well as what to look for when purchasing will also be discussed.
